The year 1954 saw the start of the church based in a local house. Meeting grew in numbers and then a school became home for the congregation until a new building began in 1956. This was made possible by the vision and generosity of a Baptist Church in Portsmouth who donated their war reparation grant for the building costs. They also made a similar provision for Chichester Baptist Church.

The need of children of Leigh Park soon became clear to a couple who were led to start a Sunday School. Having started with children in mind the church continues to have a large youth work among all ages.

In more recent times Leigh Park has helped to Plant two churches. Hayling Island Baptist and Cafe Church

In the sixties the church played an important park in the Tenant’s Association and helped lead a rent strike. Many pastoral needs are still met by the church today including those associated with issues of abuse.
Practical help is a strong area of our ministry.

Membership is currently around 80, with 90 people regularly attending home groups. there is a healthy mix of men and women from different backgrounds. Leigh Park Baptist Church is a lively place where many people have found God for the first time of regained faith later in life.

Leigh Park Baptist Church is affiliated to the Baptist Union of Great Britain, and a member of the Evangelical Alliance.

Among Christians nationally the book ‘Hell’s Angel’ by Brian Greenway, the Leigh Park ex gang member, became well know. His book is a good introduction to the background of Leigh Park. He relates his many experiences, his dramatic conversion to Christ and his reformed life. There is no doubt that this promoted much urgent prayer for the area. Since then the character of the estate has indeed changed dramatically, and we are seeing fruit from the seeds sown then - and expecting more. Brian’s testimony is typical of the messed up life changed by the grace and power of God. Leigh Park Baptist Church has many who can give a similar account of how they have been changed and their lives given hope with a new direction, which has enabled them to share the Good News effectively.http://www.chichesterbaptist.org.uk/http://www.haylingislandbaptist.org.uk/The%20Warren.htmlhttp://www.baptist.org.uk/http://www.eauk.org/shapeimage_4_link_0shapeimage_4_link_1shapeimage_4_link_2shapeimage_4_link_3shapeimage_4_link_4
